PHYSICAL FITNESS FOR SENIOR CITIZENS

In America all those who reach the age 65 are considered as Senior Citizen. All though they may reach 65 some of them feel as if they are only in their 20s or 30s. This is because they have a healthy body and mind. Age in no criteria to say you are old or young, provided you take good care of both body and mind. This can be done by doing regular exercises depending on your stamina, fitness, etc; Walking is the simplest form of exercise you can do regularly. If you are fit enough you can either walk fast or jog.
Once you retire and sit at home you tend to lead a sedantric life. This leads to many diseases like lack of immunity, diminishing body strength obesity etc; to avoid this one needs to do some physical exercises which will strengthen the body muscles, reduce excess fat, stiffness of joints.
Walking is the safe and best exercise for old aged people. If they are fit enough they can go for swimming and jogging. They can do some simple yogas. Each asana helps us to hold and release our breath slowly. By doing these asanas chronic diseases like diabetes, Blood pressure etc can be kept under control. Meditation is good for the mind. Old aged people tend to forget things easily, Meditation helps them to refresh their memories and keep them healthy.
They can do some simple aerobic exercises. AS they make simple movements and dance to the music they feel relaxed, and their oxygenation improves since the blood circulation is improved through these exercises.
Senior Citizens can do some simple muscle stretching exercises so that their muscles get stretched and the stiffness of the body vanishes. They can move their parts of the body as easily as a youngster.
Although they may feel young their age will act as a hindrance for them to do their exercises. So they should take some precautions while doing the exercises. First of all they should start with simple exercises like walking and for limited time. The time span can be increased day by day and once they are able to do simple exercise easily they can start doing the difficult ones It is advisable for them to wear suitable clothing while doing exercises depending upon the weather.
Senior Citizens who keep their health perfect will feel young and happy. Health is the greatest wealth a person can achieve in the world. Exercises are the greatest gift to us so let us do it systematically and keep our body and mind healthy when we become Senior Citizens. Thus, the physical fitness leads to all the other fitness in old age.
