Having sex in 70 years is no more a problem, at present world. It is said
that 70 years olds are enjoying more and better sexual life than the old
age people before 30 years. It is considered to be glad news to the youth
as they are the future old.
Research conducted in Sweden, in the year of 2001, says that 1500 individuals,
at the age of 70 years, are having sex and they have rated that it is more
satisfying at the higher percentages when compared to the earlier surveys.
When talking about the result, Nils Beckman (in the department of neuropsychiatric
epidemiology at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology at Gothenburg
University in Sweden) says that a vast number of the seniors consider sexual
life; feelings and activity are a natural part of life. So he insists that
the health professionals and physicians should consider sexuality and its
problems irrespective of the age.
The report states that 68% of the male respondents are sexually active in
2001, while it was only 52% in 1971. Married women of 70 years who are sexually
active also have drastic increase, to say 36% in 1971 and 56% in 2001.
Both the genders in this survey explained that the sexual relation ships
are highly satisfying. It is interesting to know that women reported that
they were able to achieve orgasm naturally during intercourse.
Dr. Petra Boynton (sex and relationship psychologist at University College
in London) states that we still have got the stereotype of seniors who keeps
rocking in their chairs and canes, staggering around and feel that they
are unfit for sexual activities and it is not the same in all the case.
He also includes that the seniors of 70 years at present in 2001 were 30s
in 1960s. he opines that this sexual revolution must have occurred in this
particular decade. With the reference of other survey result, he says that
the people who were completely satisfied in sexual life in the youth are
more likely to take over the practice even in their old age.
Another contributing factor to the satisfaction in the sexual activity is
the acceptance of divorce had become a part of culture only in the period
of 1970. So the partners were truly compatible led a wonderful and satisfying
sexual life.
The introduction of sexual inducing drugs such as Viagra and cialis to treat
erectile dysfunction in men has also become a common factor of satisfied
sexual life at 70 years. At a lowered libido it is used among women as well.
Apart from all the results, the care for themselves, freedom to the spouse,
and open attitude about sex also are some important factors.
