Vascular dementia, dementia disease, symptoms of alzheimer's disease
Dementia is problem that occurs in the brain. The decrease in the functioning
of the brain makes hassles to comprehend, remember, cognition and communicate
and that is medically called dementia. Dementia makes a person depends on
somebody, as he/she cannot take care of themselves. This disorientation
in space, time and memory relatively influence the moods, and behavior of
the individual. The number of dementia patients is in increase, especially
among the seniors.
Destruction of brain cells leads to dementia. Severe brain injury, brain
stroke, and brain tumor are some of the causes for dementia. Certain developmental
disorders may also take a route to dementia.
Symptoms
1. Lack of remembrance is the initial symptom. Repeated questions on the
same issues, misplacing things, and forgetting simple things in daily routine
are some among it. Language and communication find it hard to find words
to communicate. Even the urgent needs cannot be spelled by them. The attention
and the support of the family members is very much indeed at this crucial
period. The near and dear ones have to understand them and help them to
come out with the words which they want to reproduce.
2. As the old age commence with loss of memory, the reasoning ability is
totally condemned. They have very poor analytical thinking and reasoning
out the things around them. The judgments of the happenings become very
difficult. When it is an abstract thing, it is completely impossible in
the old age, with the dementia.
3. Disorientation of time and space is another vital symptom of dementia.
The seniors with dementia easily forget the names and places that have been
very familiar until then. The total timing and spacing sense become fault.
This disorientation is very painful both for the patients and for the family
members.
4. Vascular dementia is one of the common and popular type in dementia.
These patients have a sudden loss of memory, paralysis, loss of vision,
difficulties in word processing and loss of bowel and bladder control. Sudden
variation in moods and temperaments are commonly observed in vascular dementia.
In the early stages, weakness of limbs, slurred speech and dizziness, handling
money are some of the symptoms among these patients. This can be reduced
by improving blood circulation and in the extreme cases through electroconvulsive
therapy.
5. Unlike vascular dementia, Alzheimer’s disease leads to gradual loss of
memory, confusion, disorientation, decline in social abilities and high
irritability and restlessness. These patients are usually suppressed by
depression and anxiety. Currently, there are no exact medications for Alzheimer’s
disease. Drugs are prescribed only for the symptoms like, sleeplessness,
wandering, agitation, and depression. The patients are usually asked to
take notes to remind the daily routines and things to do.
